AEDC von Kármán Facility benefits from X-ray Lab team’s innovative efforts

ARNOLD AIR FORCE BASE, TENN. – During the recent pressure system recertification effort at the von Kármán Gas Dynamics Facility at Arnold Air Force Base, the AEDC Nondestructive Testing and X-ray Lab team members identified a crack-like flaw in a high-pressure vessel but were able to implement a technique that allowed the vessel to remain in service.

According to Ken Delaney, Fitness for Service (FSS) analysis was used to determine if the vessel could remain in use, and if so, its remaining life and the frequency it would need to be inspected.

AEDC Commander Col. Scott Cain introduces himself, outlines his plans

ARNOLD AIR FORCE BASE, TENN. – July was a busy month at Arnold Air Force Base, with Col. Rodney Todaro passing the AEDC guidon over to new Commander, Col. Scott Cain.

Heard, leaving how he arrived

ARNOLD AIR FORCE BASE, TENN. – After working almost 45 years for AEDC at Arnold, software engineer Tommie Heard is crossing over to test the retirement waters.

Five new AEDC Fellows honored

TULLAHOMA, TENN. – Five new AEDC Fellows were inducted during a banquet and ceremony June 23 at the Arnold Lakeside Center, Arnold Air Force Base.

The Arnold Community Council AEDC Fellows Committee, which runs the AEDC Fellows program, the highest honor for AEDC employees, has selected this year’s winners. Two of the new Fellows are Technical, two Craft and one is Lifetime Achievement.

Small business outreach event offers information to vendors on doing business with AEDC contractor

ARNOLD AIR FORCE BASE, TENN. — The AEDC Test Operations and Sustainment contractor at Arnold Air Force Base will host a small business outreach event June 28 at the Franklin County Annex building in Winchester, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

“This event will educate suppliers and subcontractors on how to successfully do business with National Aerospace Solutions [the AEDC TOS contractor],” said Cindy Dixon, NAS Subcontract Administrator and Small Business Advocate Certified Supplier Diversity Professional.

ISO 9001 certification approved for the AEDC Test Operations and Sustainment contractor

ARNOLD AIR FORCE BASE, TENN. — Personnel with the AEDC Test Operations and Sustainment, or TOS, contractor at Arnold Air Force Base are credited with accomplishing ISO 9001 certification.

The contractor, National Aerospace Solutions, LLC, was certified ISO 9001 compliant after an audit performed by independent registrar Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance, or LRQA, May 16-18.

Team members unite to make safety a priority

ARNOLD AIR FORCE BASE, TENN. — The members of the Manufacturing Safety Leadership Council, or MSLC, at AEDC are witnessing the rewards of having involvement from team members to achieve a superior safety mindset.

Since the beginning of the fiscal year 2017, the council and AEDC craft workers have implemented solutions to 181 self-reported findings due to the involvement of the craft team performing field installation work in the plant and test areas, the manufacturing fabrication areas and the laboratories.
